CONNECT WITH FRIENDS
Church is more than sermons and information; it breathes in conversations as we invite each other deeply into our lives. Our gatherings are not meant to be a show or a monologue, but rather an interactive experience–a dialogue. Join in, share what you have and take a piece of what others around you are offering. Our Sunday gatherings are an engaging and thoughtful experience, but it’s the connections we make that bring that experience to life.
We work hard to make sure that every Sunday is a thoughtful, meaningful encounter with God, but our spiritually journey is often as much about the people who help us along the way. That's why we want to create an environment "where nobody does God alone". There are lots of opportunities to connect, from the coffee break we take every Sunday, to the Dinner Party Network you can read about below, but our hope is that if you take some initiative we can help you find your place at Commons.
As much as possible we want church to be a dialogue so if you have any questions during the sermon feel free to text them to 587.400.0707 and we’ll do our best to respond. If you’re new just text “hello” to that same number so we can start a conversation.
There is a sacred place in the Jesus movement for the ‘stuff’ that happens around a dinner table. It flows from the way Jesus lived and the practice of communion, itself. It’s also the setting in which existing relationships are enriched and new ones begin.
Our dinner party network is simple: a chance to have a dinner and conversation with someone new from the community. 6-8 people in someone’s house doing the very thing Jesus asked them to do in remembrance of him.
We’ve designed this as a low commitment opportunity to go deeper than a Sunday sometimes allows. Think of it this way, the worst case scenario is, you get a free dinner, the best case, you make a new friend.
There is always a lot happening in and around the community. Sometimes connection happens through a program or event. Sometimes people experience connection when they volunteer. And sometimes connection happens just because you are willing to say hello and strike up a conversation with someone new. Check the calendar for more details.
