ADVENT LITURGY
By Bobbi Salkeld

Advent is the beginning of a New Year in the church calendar. During Advent we joyfully anticipate and solemnly prepare for all the ways God comes to us. On this first Sunday of Advent we focus our hearts on God’s light shining in our darkness. We hear the words of the prophet Isaiah, which ring out:

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.

The first Advent candle is a candle of hope. As we light this candle we pray,
Advent God, we worship you: the God who comes. Your light shines out in the darkness.
This Advent season, help us to see the flicker of love as we wait with hope for your arrival,

Amen.
