    Warm-Up Activity: The Lord’s Prayer Actions + Storytime — Activity Leader — 7 minutes

Discussion — Bible Story Leader — 7 minutes

    • Last Sunday we started learning about the Lord’s Prayer and today we’ll talk about it a little bit more.

    • First we learned that God is like a parent who loves and cares for us, who we can talk to about anything.

    • We also learned that we should respect God just like we are supposed to respect our own parents.

    • Well there are some other parts of Jesus’ prayer too. Like praying for God’s kingdom to come. What do you think that means? (praying that God’s goodness will spread through the world to everyone)

    • Then Jesus told us to pray for God to give us our “daily bread” - does anyone here eat bread? What’s your favourite food? Why do you think Jesus tells us to pray for food? (it also means praying for the things we really need)

    • The Jesus tells us to pray for forgiveness when we do the wrong things… but if we ask God to forgive us, we should also forgive others. Have you ever had to forgive someone for doing something wrong to you?

Prayer — Bible Story Leader — 1 minute

    • “Dear God, thank you for the lesson we learned today about how to pray and what some important things are to remember when we’re praying. Like asking for your kingdom and goodness to spread to everyone, asking for the things we need, and asking for forgiveness while also forgiving others. Please help us to grow closer to you though prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Warm Up Activity: The Lord’s Prayer Actions — Activity Leader — 7 minutes

Discussion — Bible Story Leader —10 minutes

    • Last week we started talking about The Lord’s Prayer and we learned that we can talk to God like a parent who loves us. And since today is Mother’s Day, we also read that God is not only like a father, but also like a mother who gives us life, loves us, and cares for us.

    • Well today we’re also going to learn a little bit more about the rest of Jesus’ prayer. Can anyone say it from memory?

    • So it begins with “our father in heaven, hallowed be your name” which we talked about last week… but then Jesus continues to talk about asking for God’s kingdom to come, praying for our daily bread, praying for forgiveness, and praying to keep us away from temptation.

    • That’s a lot of things! What do you think it means to pray for God’s kingdom to come on earth? (asking for God’s goodness and fairness to spread all around the world so everyone can experience it)

    • What do you think it means to pray for our daily bread? (to pray for the things we need, not just the things we want)

    • And when we pray for forgiveness when we do something wrong, Jesus tells us that we also have to forgive others if we want to be forgiven. Do you think it’s easy or hard to forgive others when they do wrong to us?

    • Lastly, Jesus says to pray that God will keep us away from temptation to do wrong things. Why do you think doing wrong things can be so tempting sometimes? How can we avoid that temptation?

Prayer — Bible Story Leader — 1 minute

    • “Dear God, thank you for everything we learned from Jesus’ example of prayer. How we can talk to you like a loving parent, how we can ask for your kingdom and goodness to spread all through the world, and for the things that we really need and not just what we want, for forgiveness, and for protection from temptation. Please help us to learn to pray and become the kind of people who want us to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
