Welcome to Pop Up Commons.
Why:
Commons has always been committed to local expression and thoughtful engagement. We do this in places like our Groups and our Partnerships already, but we also have the sense that we still have room to grow in this area. This is why we're trying something new - a short-term experiment in taking community beyond West Hillhurst. Starting Feb 15th, we’re going to meet for four consecutive weeks in Midnapore.
What:
Each Thursday night, you’ll follow the signs to our space on the main floor at the Mid-Sun Community Association. We’ll begin with dinner at 6:30pm, launch into a conversation about how we can read some of the troubling parts of Scripture, and wrap up around 8pm. For weeks 2-4, we’ll update this page and ask you to preview the teaching we’ll use to guide our discussions.
About a year ago at Commons, we went through a series entitled Disarming the Bible. We’re going to use the themes of that series to guide us as we connect and learn during each PopUp session. As a community, we’re committed to returning regularly to the big questions that the scriptures inspire, and to the work of learning to read with Jesus at the centre. Whether you’ve been around for a while or are just getting to know us, these themes offer an incredible opportunity to grow and stretch in your spiritual journey. So bring your curiosity and your experience to the table!
