Bears Before Giants: Dreaming Big and Starting Small
We all dream about big, life-changing moments, but most of us struggle to take the first small step toward them.
In this week’s teaching clip, Jeremy reflects on the story of David and Goliath and how the scriptures invite us to hold ambition and humility together.
David’s courage in the valley doesn’t come out of nowhere. Before he ever faced a giant, he had already learned to be faithful and resilient in far smaller, unseen moments. As he tells Saul, he had faced lions and bears long before Goliath entered the picture. Those ordinary, hidden challenges became the training ground for his courage.
Most of us won’t wrestle wildlife anytime soon, but the point still stands:
Our “giant” moments are almost always preceded by “bear” moments, smaller developmental experiences that shape us long before anyone is watching.
If you’re dreaming about something new or intimidating, maybe a creative project, a career shift, a spiritual step—remember that big leaps are built from grounded beginnings. Start with a small, faithful step in front of you. Let consistency form the courage you’ll need later.
Bears come before giants.
