The Social Location of Healing
In the New Testament, Jesus’ healings are not just about fixing bodies. They reveal a deeper vision of the kingdom of God, one rooted in restoring belonging and repairing what separates people from one another. Healing, in this sense, is socially located. Jesus confronts stigma, exclusion, and the belief that difference equals disqualification. Through stories of reintegration, compassion, and shared dependence, the Gospels show that wholeness is communal, not individual. The kingdom Jesus proclaims is not an escape from human limitation, but a transformation of how we live together, where vulnerability is honored, access is shared, and no one is left behind.
