Lesson 3: Jesus feeds 5000

Passage: Luke 9:10-17 - In this story, Jesus was teaching a large crowd of about 5,000 men, plus women and children. After a long day, his disciples suggested sending everyone away to get food. But Jesus said they should feed the people themselves. They only had five loaves of bread and two fish, yet when they shared them, there was more than enough to satisfy everyone.

Big Idea: God provides for our needs.

For Teachers:

Lesson plan.

  • Welcome — Activity Leader

Have the children sit in a circle on the circle time rug. Introduce yourself and welcome them to class.

Warm Up Activity: — Activity Leader

Class Restaurant. This will be an imagination activity. Most of the kids will sit at the tables and a few kids will be the ‘servers’. They will hand out paper plates & cutlery to all their kids, take ‘orders’ and pretend to serve the kids their order. Do this a few times to switch who the server is. A fun thing for the teacher to do is bring the ‘wrong order’ and have to run back and forth for the kids. Kids can also use the ‘loaves and fish’ from their craft.

Today we’ll be talking about another one of Jesus’ miracles. Last Sunday, we learned that Jesus told a storm to calm down, and it did! Today’s story is about a time when Jesus fed a huge crowd of people with only a little bit of food.
