Have the children and leaders sit in a circle.
Place a tray with several items (small toys, play food etc.) in the middle of the circle.
Ask the children to look at all the items and see if they can remember what’s on the tray.
Have the children close their eyes, while the leader removes 1 item from the tray.
Have the children open their eyes and take turns guessing which item is missing.
Preliminary Discussion — Bible Story Leader
Last week we started talking about how Jesus was a great teacher who shared many important lessons with his followers. Today we’re going to be learning about another one of Jesus’ lessons. One time, when he was talking to the crowds, he said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

What do you think Jesus means when he says that he is the light? How does that make you feel?
Prayer — Bible Story Leader
“Dear God, thank you for the teaching of Jesus that we learned today about how Jesus is like a light in the darkness, how he shows us the way to live a good life through his words and actions, and how learning more about what Jesus taught can help us to know more about you, and how much you love and care for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
