CANDLE LITURGIES
Written by Bobbi Salkeld

HOPE
Christmas fills us with the expectation that God’s presence is near.
Emmanuel has come to you through Mary and the world is pregnant with gifts of the Divine.
We light the candle of hope to recall that the one who lifts us up is here.

Hope is with you in Jesus and you need not be afraid.

LOVE
Love is with you in Jesus and you need not feel alone.

JOY
Christmas fills us with the expectation that joy is near.
Emmanuel has come to you in newborn simplicity. All happiness hides out in this small baby.
This is God made flesh for you.
We light the candle of joy to illuminate the shadows and to trust in God’s gift to the world.

Joy is with you in Jesus and you need not despair.

PEACE
Christmas fills us with the expectation that peace is possible.
Emmanuel has come to bring peace, the end to all our violence. Peace reminds us that we meet the Messiah in our neighbours and good news is for all people.
We light the candle of peace to illuminate the path to Jesus. The one who gathers herdsmen and angels, kings and refugees, is here.

Peace is with you in Jesus and you need not be divided.
