ADVENT: CANDLE OF PEACE
Written by Bobbi Salkeld

Today marks the fourth week in the season of Advent; a season that holds space in the dark.

All season long, we have been waiting for the ways Jesus comes into our midst. We have been waiting for God’s hope, love, and joy to arrive.

Today we focus our hearts on a holy announcement – the declaration that a new revolution was dawning. A revolution centred on peace.

This is –

Peace that subverts corrupt power structures.

Peace that preferences the least popular.

Peace that comes in the night with a song to you.

Today we light the fourth candle of Advent: the candle of peace.

Let us pray:

Advent God, in this season we consider all the ways Jesus comes to us - Jesus arrives in the flesh in Bethlehem, Jesus arrives in our hearts every day, Jesus arrives in glory at the end of time.

We know we cannot have the world you promise without the constant approach of your peace. This Advent, we welcome the surprise of your coming, the revolution of your peace, and the never-ending life we find in you.

Where there is insecurity, will you bring your peace.

Where there is scarcity, will you bring your peace.

Where there is fear, will you bring your peace. AMEN.
