EUCHARIST INVITATION

Today is the last Sunday in the Christian year - the Sunday before our Advent journey begins - a Sunday traditionally called the Feast of Christ the King.

The feast reminds us that no matter the chaos in the world – Christ reigns. Now, Christ’s reign is not one of force, or violence, or deception. Not at all. Christ’s reign is patient, it’s compassionate, it suffers alongside before it raises up.

The sorrowful.
The battered.
The lost and lonely.

So, as you approach the Eucharist table today - a sacred meal set for us all - may you see that Jesus sits at the table’s head and stoops to wash the feet of all who sit around it.

May you sense Christ’s reign where you need it the most.

Hear the invitation:

The Apostle Paul says that on the night Jesus was betrayed, he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

After the meal, Jesus took the cup and said, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Whenever we eat this bread and drink from the vine we proclaim the death of Christ until he comes again.

Christ has died.
Christ has risen.
Christ will come again.

Let’s pray together:

Loving God, you invite us to the table A foretaste of things eternal
For those in need of Christ’s mighty reign – In places of confusion
In times of uncertainty
In relationships that are full of turmoil Spirit, as we gather around the table,
will you bring wisdom, power, and strength
For those in need of Christ’s servant way – In places of grief
In feelings of desperation
In a desire for something more trustworthy Spirit, as we gather around the table,
will you bring companionship, presence, and comfort
We pray, AMEN.
