Pre-Marriage counselling.
We think pre-marriage counselling is one of the best investments you can make in your relationship.
Weddings are beautiful. But marriage is something deeper. Something longer, richer, and at times more complex than a single day can hold. Taking time before you step into that covenant to reflect, prepare, and grow together is a gift you give to your future selves.
As pastors, we’re trained in pastoral counselling. We love walking with couples through questions of faith, meaning, and shared life. Those conversations matter. They shape the kind of story you’re stepping into together.
And at the same time, we also believe in the value of professional counselling.
Sometimes the most helpful voice is someone outside your immediate relationships, a neutral third party who can help you see patterns, name tensions, and build tools for communication and connection. There’s wisdom in inviting someone into your story who isn’t already part of it.
That’s why we’ve partnered with a number of trusted, professional counsellors here in the city to offer pre-marriage counselling packages for Commons couples.
Here’s how it works:
Take some time to review the counselling options available.
Reach out to a counsellor who feels like a good fit for you.
Let them know you’re coming from Commons Church so you can access the pre-marriage package.
Once you’ve begun that process, the pastor who will be officiating your ceremony will follow up with you to schedule a time together. That conversation will focus on your ceremony—how we can shape it, personalize it, and reflect the story you’re telling as a couple.
Because this isn’t just about a wedding.
It’s about building something that lasts.

Jonathan McGregor
My expertise in couples and families evolved from a compassion for families struggling with disconnection. My Bachelor’s degree in Psychology highlighted the many challenges people face throughout life. My Master’s in Couple and Family Therapy specialized my understanding: personal challenges don’t happen in isolation – they affect, and are affected by others we are in relationship with.

Creating Clarity
I opened this practice in 2017 after finishing a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology. I had retired from a long career in the oil and gas industry as a mineral landman and I wanted my second career to focus on my well being and that of those I worked with. Work-life balance had always been an issue in my life and I had seen many colleagues, friends and family members struggle with that balance and with mental health over the years. Personally, I wanted to be a better parent and wife, and I wanted to bring my experience and training to helping others.
