A Beautiful Disruption

Or The Day of the Lord Revisited

In Acts 2 we get this neat glimpse into the early Church and how they were thinking about the Jesus story. In fact, when Peter stands up on the day of Pentecost, flanking by the other disciples, to address a skeptical crowd he’s actually giving the first sermon of the church era.

And this is how it starts:

“Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people aren’t drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!” (Acts 2:14–15).

Still you have to appreciate that approach. Persuasive rhetoric 101: address objections right off the bat.

From here though things get far more interesting as Peter quotes two passages and scripture and offers some creative interpretation.
