Lesson 6: Trusting in God’s care.

Passage: Matthew 6:25-34 - Jesus teaches his followers not to worry about daily needs like food or clothing, because life is more than these things and God knows what we need. He points to the birds, who do not plant or store food yet are fed by God, and to the flowers, which are beautifully clothed though they last only a short time. Instead of being anxious, we are to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness, trusting that our needs will be provided for.

Big Idea: Letting tomorrow worry about itself.

For Teachers

    • And what did Jesus say about the flowers in the fields?

    • What are some ways that God takes care of you every day?

    Prayer — Bible Story Leader

Dear God, thank you for the lesson we learned today from Jesus about how we don’t need to worry about anything because we know that you love and care for us. Thank you for taking care of our needs every single day. Help us to always trust in you even when we feel worried, and remind us that you’re always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Activity: Tissue Paper Flower — Activity Leader

Kids will glue different pieces of tissue paper onto a pre-printed flower image to add color. They will then glue the Bible verse onto the page.

If a child is not interested in the activity, allow them to move to free play.

Activity: Tissue Paper Flower Bouquet — Activity Leader

Kids will fold a piece of tissue paper in an accordion fold (or smush it together the best they can). Then pinch the length of tissue in the middle and tie pipe cleaner around to hold it in place. Cut the outer edges of the tissue paper into a petal shape (they can feel free to experiment) and fluff out the tissue paper so it resembles petals / a flower with the pipe cleaner as a stem. Kids are welcome to make a few to create a bouquet.

Dismissal: Collect tags and make sure each child leaves with their caregiver.

  • Welcome — Activity Leader

Welcome the kids to class, ask how their week was.

Warm Up Activity: Back to School Bingo — Activity Leader

Each kid gets a bingo sheet and will walk around to find other kids who meet the criteria. The goal is to get them talking to and learning about one another, and to fill the whole bingo card.
