WHAT DO YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT?
We live in a time where polarizing views, hot takes, and bombastic delivery define so much of public discourse.
It can feel like we’re being talked at sometimes, instead of participating in a conversation – be it faith, or politics, or film reviews.
This is why we want to reimagine the soapbox this summer.
We’re going to collect different voices from our community, and invite each to explore a key theological idea or tradition that’s fascinated them.
And here’s what we hope happens along the way: that you find yourself more inquisitive and more thoughtful about life’s biggest questions.
Sundays in Kensington
Consider how curiosity can be a form of faith when we're swept beyond our intellectual limits, how our hunger to start over is divine, how Jesus uses the metaphor of wind and Spirit, and how we can participate in a tangible mysticism every day.
In the closing chapters of Acts, Paul learns to release the communities he helped build—and eventually loses control over his own journey. Yet even amid imprisonment, uncertainty, and shipwreck, he retains something vital: the freedom to choose how he will show up.
Yelena explores the layered and universal idea of "home". Grounded in Ephesians 2:19–22, this message looks at how Christ breaks down dividing walls, invites outsiders into full belonging, and joins us together into a living sanctuary where God makes a home.
In the first message of the Soapbox Sundays series, Scott makes the case for how an intellectual, reflective life is a spiritual life. Looking at the wisdom literature of Proverbs 4, this teaching explores how engaging our minds across generations, embracing curiosity, and asking hard questions helps us love God and serve our neighbours more deeply.
Sundays in Marda Loop
As Commons prepares to launch its new Marda Loop parish, Bobbi wraps up our soft-launch series with a look at Matthew 4 and a theology of beauty. Exploring Jesus’ call along the Sea of Galilee, the power of art, and the transcendent nature of God, this message invites us beyond transactional faith into a captivating encounter with the Divine.
